FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
John Balestriere Lectures Hedge Fund Managers
on The Class Action Fairness Act
NEW YORK, March 14, 2005
John Balestriere delivered an after-work lecture on the newly-passed Class Action Fairness Act of 2005 at the University of Pennsylvania Club in New York City. Attendees included investment managers and analysts from some of the largest hedge funds in the nation.
After years of lobbying and negotiations, The Class Action Fairness Act was signed into law by President Bush last month. Mr. Balestriere briefed the audience of investment professionals on the finer points of the Act, pointing out that it was not being adequately analyzed in the general and business press. "As is typical," Mr. Balestriere said, "the press just skims the surface on complicated legislation like this without really sinking its teeth into the nitty-gritty of the law, or the less obvious consequences of the legislation."
During the lecture, Mr. Balestriere highlighted the complications that The Class Action Fairness Act might create. "This law simply will not be the salve that large corporations want it to be." he said. "It may, instead, create a whole host of new and expensive problems for large companies, particularly those with a nationwide presence."
